Mount Batur Sunrise

Bali

About

Rising 1,717 meters above sea level in the Kintamani region, Mount Batur is Bali's most accessible active volcano — and one of the island's most spectacular sunrise viewpoints. Most hikers depart from Toya Bungkah village around 4:00am, reaching the summit crater just as the first light begins to paint the clouds below in shades of orange and pink.

The view from the top encompasses Lake Batur in the caldera below, the larger Mount Agung to the east, and on clear days the islands of Lombok and Nusa Penida in the distance. Soft-boiled eggs cooked in volcanic steam are a local tradition at the summit. Guides are mandatory (around $30-40 USD) and the trek is considered easy to moderate — most visitors with basic fitness complete it comfortably. Book guides the day before through your accommodation.
